Mallory Lombard and Drew Driscoll are still best friends, even though Drew moved away from the sleepy town of Port Carling, Ontario, years ago to pursue a career as a foreign-affairs journalist in the power capitals of the world.

Best friends forever--but lovers fleetingly, during a stormy weekend spent together.

Now Drew is back in Port Carling for his mother's funeral and to settle her estate. And here's the kicker. Mallory is pregnant, and Drew, her best friend, is the father!

Drew means the world to Mallory. A life in Port Carling with him and their child is what she wants.

Too bad running a small-town newspaper and being a husband and dad hold no appeal for him. Or do they?

Her Best Friend's BabyDon't you love the friends you've had for practically all your life? Isn't there an extra intimacy, a greater comfort zone, than exists with all but the most special of friends discovered later in life?

That's what I've found, and it's also the case with Mallory, Drew, Grady and Claire. These four friends grew up spending their summers together in the charming resort town of Port Carling. Located North of Toronto, Canada, in Muskoka Lake Country, it would be hard to imagine a more picturesque setting. Close your eyes and picture big clear lakes, majestic trees, and hot humid summers...there, you've got it!

These four friends are so close, and yet there are secrets... Harmless indiscretions in some cases, innocent mistakes in others. Then there are the more serious deceptions, those with the potential to damage lives.

HER BEST FRIEND'S BABY is Mallory and Drew's story. It's about their friendship--which began when they were both in diapers. And about their one indiscretion, and how it changed that friendship forever...

I hope you'll look for THE FOURTH CHILD, an upcoming Superromance about Claire, a woman who's been married for twelve years, but who's never managed to forget the first love of her life. You'll also find out what happens to Grady and how he manages to turn his life around...after what? Well, that would be telling...

Her Best Friend's Baby

"I want to talk about us, Mal," Drew said. "About getting married."

Mallory smoothed down a flannel receiving blanket. It was so soft and comforting. She wanted to wrap it around herself and block out this conversation. But they'd been hiding from the truth for too long now.

"How can we talk about getting married, when we can't even look each other in the eye anymore?"

He glanced away, proving her point.

See? She wanted to say. But she didn't. It hurt too much.

How had it happened? They'd been best friends for so many years. She didn't regret that they'd had a child--how could she be sorry she had Angel? If only she hadn't complicated matters by falling in love with him.

"You're right," Drew said. "Things have been different between us. But we can get married and work out our problems."

"Why are you arguing for something you obviously don't want?" Not since Angel was born had he looked at her with the passion he'd once been barely able to contain.

Yet, it wasn't just the baby's birth that had cooled his ardor, Mallory knew. She'd made the mistake of crossing the line. She'd gone from friend to lover.

And soon she would be the same as all his other lovers. History.
